New Member Royal Cup Coffee's Ben Pitts has been with the company for 21 years.  He is originally from Clinton, South Carolina, and has three daughters and a son, who is the oldest and a sophomore at AuburnWe asked Ben, "What do you love best about Royal Cup Coffee?"

"It is a tie between the level of commitment I see in our people, and the interesting nature of the work.  Our culture is one of intense customer service and every day you see Royal Cuppers do incredible things to make customers happy.  What I love about my work is the opportunity to meet so many unique people and travel to interesting places.  We work with many different types of customers in restaurants and food service.  It is always a learning experience to see how they run their businesses.  The chefs, coffee bar baristas, and coffee producers and roasters are truly artists; their passion and creativity are amazing.  I always drink drip or steeped coffee black, cappuccino with whole milk.  I am partial to coffees from Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia.  These make great single origin offerings.  My favorite blend is our H.C. Valentine Signature blend, made in our artisan micro-plant here in Birmingham.

This photo was taken in Panama, in the coffee growing region of Boquete.  I had the privilege of being a judge for the specialty coffee harvest, visiting farms and evaluating coffees with other coffee people from around the world.  Panama has this boutique coffee industry, with incredible specialty coffees that are typically available to roasters through on-line auctions only.  The winning coffee fetched $98 per pound!

Hunt Mobley with Mobley & Sons has recently remodeled his store after having been in the heart of Crestline Village on Euclid Avenue for over 30 years.  A ribbon cutting with the Mayor in attendance will soon celebrate his grand re-opening!  The Chamber appreciates his commitment to Mountain Brook and his long-time service to the community as a favorite men's clothing retailer!  Not to be confused with another men's retailer by the same name in Tuscaloosa, follow events and sales on Mobley & Sons - Mountain Brook on Facebook by clicking here.

Chuck Branch with Decision Data Resources (DDR) is a new member and a new resident of Mountain Brook who also serves on the Chamber's Board.  As a board member, he provided the Chamber with strategic demographic information to assist with our new marketing campaign.  He continues to provide database information to our membership as a valuable benefit.  Decision Data Resources specializes in providing web-based data and Geographic Information System ( GIS ) applications marketed to a broad range of clients, including commercial realtors, site consultants, retailers,  chambers of commerce, and federal, state, and local government agencies. We're fortunate to have him on board!  More information about DDR is available at by clicking here.

Lauren Stewart with Lulie's on Cahaba is one of Mountain Brook newest merchants.  She considered the grim economic news in 2009 a rare opportunity to rent prime real estate in the heart of Mountain Brook Village!  Her hip, leading-edge, cost conscious merchandise appeals to a wide variety of women, and even caught the eye of a local fashionista who scooped her for this August article!  A long-time Mountain Brook resident, Lauren believes in our community and we applaud her courage to invest her money and time in a new dress shop during a period of economic hardship.
