"Mountain Brook Residents Help Neighbor  Save Home"

Mountain Brook, AL - "I've experienced so much," says Jann Robinson, and ABC 33/40 was with her and her family for some of those life events. In August 2005, one of our reporters spent the night with the family, to watch she and her husband,Dave, get the children ready for the first day of school. In October 2006, we were with the family again after doctors diagnosed Dave, with lymphoma. The community raised $20,000 for his mounting medical bills. He passed away a week later.

This weekend, there's another community effort to help Robinson and their six children save their home.

"It's just been very, very hard for us," Robinson says. "It was a rough transition initially, and for a while I was doing pretty good by myself."

After her husband passed away three years ago, Robinson continued with the catering business they started together. Then the economy hit the business hard.

"If you're dependent on a certain group of people or a certain demographic to do business with, if they get hit, you also get hit," she explains.

"We have to raise $20,000 by December the first," says friend and neighbor Sheri Corey, who organized a yard sale. The donations include everything from tapestries to clothes.. even brand new toys. "This is to save her house, and if we don't save her house, she will be homeless with six children."

If you want to help the Robinson's out, the yard sale starts Saturday morning (11/21) at 8 A.M. at Mountain Brook Baptist Church on Montevallo Road. It runs until 4 P.M. in the afternoon.
